Saga of Soul is probably the project I've worked on for the longest time. I've been at it for years, and I imagine I'll still be at it several years from now. I've got this big concept of a story in my head, and I want to give it form, with my limited but hopefully improving skills.
But...if I'm honest? Three years ago, I was kind of hoping that by now I could make a living from writing. Obviously enough, I'm not there. I'd like to get there eventually.
So. I'm trying to raise awareness. I try to draw attention to my story without being obnoxious about it - Google Analytics tells me that a lot of the visitors on the website come from rpg.net (where I post regularly, and have a link to the story in my signature) and from SpaceBattles (where I have a thread about the story on the creative writing sub-forum). I've added Facebook and Google+ buttons readers can use to share the website if they feel it deserves it. More recently, I've started putting ads on Project Wonderful - not cheap, admittedly.
I'm thankful for any reader I have. But I don't think a 3-digit readership could really support, say, a Kickstarter for an e-book with bonus material or anything of the sort. But readership isn't exactly exploding, and TVTropes presence remains negligible.
So, I'm wondering what I should be doing. I'm wondering if "Saga of Soul" is the kind of story that can attract a vast readership in the first place. I'm wondering if I should be trying the traditional market and submitting the story to a publishing house. I'm wondering if I should be revising the early chapters to make them more apt at grabbing a first-time reader. Put Paypal donation buttons? Try the Kickstarter thing anyway? Shut up and write the next chapter already?
So...suggestions and opinions welcome, I suppose. ;)
