Back before the move from FictionPress, I used the old forum to answer comments. Since I'm trying to move discussion toward this new forum, I'll be answering here:
"Council of Wisdom." Lovely. Another faction. For some reason, I keep imagining this story with the Code Geass soundtrack and animation team.Given the powers that Soul and the others yield, it's inevitable that everybody and his grandmother get interested in the whole affair...and it's a big world (not to mention an even bigger multiverse).
You seem to be making a habit of introducing characters, giving some information about them, then killing them off a couple of paragraphs later. Did you pick this up from another author?I don't recall picking it up anywhere in particular...Mostly, I'm trying to make the dozens and hundreds of casualties be more than just numbers. It's hard enough to feel empathy for faceless victims on the news, so in a work of fiction...
Nice meta-commentary on intelligent protagonists. Does Eriko frequent Comic Book Rumbles, then?Haven't decided, to be honest...But, could be. As mentioned previously, she does hang out on the English-speaking parts of the Web.
Again with the anvils? Does Eriko have a compulsive need to leave a calling card? There are better shapes for a giant metal projectile.Probably. But while she's given more than a little thought to combat tactics, this particular bit hasn't really come up yet... So, she conjures what comes to mind.
Tungsten and gold are heavier. 19.3 to 19.1. (Is this actually the first thought she's given to metal densities?) And you weren't exactly clear on the ramp's role in the spear-throwing.The ramp was designed to aim the projectile in the right general direction, to make things easier on the targeting spell.
And here I thought she was going to close the portal around its' neck. Gruesome, but effective? The portals seem, how should I say... "soft", like in Portal (the game).Eriko's portals don't "cut" when they close - they pull/push one way or another, like a gravity pulse. That said, if the creature's head hadn't been too large to pass through the portal, her first choice of tactic would have been to pull its head through the portal and let it suffocate in the vacuum of space.
Besides the obvious rival magical girl sure to appear (maybe),Heh. I'd like to think my writing's not all that predictable.
any plans on more...direct allies to Eriko's cause? The kind that support her in battle, like Junko becoming a magical girl or something...Barring unforeseen changes, I have a pretty good idea of what kind of help Eriko will be getting or not. Junko's already tried to go the magical girl route, but Mother Aurora wouldn't hear of it...not in line with her "don't give the hairless apes even more of the dangerous stuff for crying out loud!" policy.
though her not being interested in science might pose a problem.Eh. You don't need to be scientifically-minded to be good with magic. It can help, but it's not the greatest factor. Murder isn't good with science, but sheer talent and centuries of experience make him a real beast. Mother Aurora is more powerful by orders of magnitude, but in her case, there are extra factors at play...
Maybe this Kazu kid. Then it'll be time for GATTAI! Fusion HA and all that... where the hell am I even going with this? XD...I'm not sure you want someone like Kazu to have this kind of power.
